I switched over to e-cigs about 8 months ago. I used to smoke in my BMW and even in winter, I had to have the sunroof open and the windows at least 3 inches down to try and avoid the smell lingering.

I don't smoke, nor do I allow smoking in the car, but I do carry a lighter with me from time to time, meet some smoking ladies...

I didn't mind because I don't smoke in the car but my 2012 A6 Prestige (build 2/2012) does not have a font ash tray. It only has a storage box under the lid that usually hides the ash tray. There are ash trays in the rear doors though which I though is kind of odd. It didn't have lighters anywhere either, the sockets are there in the rear center console but they were empty.

Really, that was one of the selling points when I bought the car in 08/11. It's a 10/11 build with ashtray and 6 disc player in the glove box.

Around mid-2012 model year, Audi started removing the CD Changer & Ash Tray/Front Cig Lighter from the 2012s.

Was talking with my Sales guy about this when we on the Message Boards started noticing this. He said that while the CD Changer could obviously be added after the fact, the Front-AshTray/CigLighter had no aftermarket option and if wanted would have to be on requested when you order the car from the factory.

I am glad I have the "Front-AshTray/CigLighter". Even though I don't smoke, I like having it as an extra Power Source.

The ash tray seems to be easy to be retrofit, the storage compartment comes out as one piece (the lid is seperate too) and I'm sure there is an ash tray that can be ordered to replace it. The lighter socket is a different story though since there is no spare plug hidden in the center console. There is the socket in the center arm rest though that could be tapped into to get power.

Hate to admit it, but yes I smoke in my A6. For resale purposes I never use the factory ashtray or lighter though. I have a "snuffer" tall ashtray set into one of the cupholders. Also, I never park the car in the garage at night with the windows rolled up.

I have a pretty good routine to "de-odorize" my cars before I sell them, haven't had any real problems with any of the last 6 vehicles I have sold private party (two Lexus, three A6's and a MB E350 4Matic)

Glad to hear that you guys are pretty picky about what you do/don't do in your cars.

An occassional one with the windows rolled down on a nice fall day... awsome
