I have a 2019 so I'm wired only with Android Auto but am considering a Motorola Ma1 adapter for wireless AA. Does anyone know if you can run split screen with this adapter? I hate that AA takes over the entire screen so I can't see the radio screen at all.
It may depend on your device. I have a Samsung 21S Ultra and recently had a software upgrade that now allows split screens. I have the Motorola MA1. I now see my cell icons on the left side of screen vice bottom and I normally select WAZE and my Bluetooth or Sirius/XM on the right side. It displays the album cover and song being played when using Bluetooth and can display current song and next 2 songs as well by double tapping the music screen on the car. In SiriusXM I only see the current song and the station it's on. I'll take photos later and post them. BTW, I can use Google maps vice WAZE as well. In fact, I can select satellite view on maps as well.
Here's my real question. Can I use Android Auto on half the vehicle display and still see my radio stations on the other half? I hate that when previously using AA, it took over the whole screen. I do listen to local radio often so I'd like to be able to still see what station is on and what's playing while using AA for things like Waze or Google Maps.

No that's possible under any circumstances while using AA.
No, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are not designed to be used on only half the screen. That wouldn't work from the aspect ratio perspective alone. When using either one, they take control of the entire screen. You can bring up the radio in the virtual cockpit instead. That's what having multiple screens is for.
Not sure. The smarter approach seems to be what Apple is doing with the next generation of CarPlay which will allow controlling of other vehicle functions from within CarPlay.
