The question is..... how much velocity drop and heat soak?

Default Meh! I don't think the surface area will be greatly increased.

I'm sure there has been tons of testing on this somewhere. It just seems that a FMIC would put a lot more heat on the radiator, oilcooler, bipipes, yada yada. If it was a better option I think we would see many aftermarket companies offering this. Just some thoughts.

Default couple of thoughts...

1. I don't see how that's going to work on an A6 without butchering the bumper support.
2. You're going to starve the A/C condenser for fresh air and noticibly reduce the efficiency of your A/C system. Look how much of the condenser is blocked by the intercooler....

I think it's probably a lot better to get beefier intercoolers in the stock side positions (like the RS4 or even beefier AWE versions).

Cheers,

I've heard of it done on B5 S4s. You're right, the bumper support gets hacked.

Default Pricing for the B5 S4's is $925 (not installed)

Their words:

"When increasing boost on a turbocharged car one important modification that is often overlooked is the addition of a larger, more efficient front mount intercooler unit. We have spent countless hours of track time modifying and tweaking the intercooler specs with the end result being the most affordable, efficient front mount intercooler available on the planet. Complete kit includes everything needed to install for only $925."

SPP Performance Front Mount Intercooler Optimized for high boost K03 and K04 applications. $1095.Introductory price: $925

I'd spend the extra 4 bills and go w/ AWE's.

Default But track use with high air flow speeds may not translate into good street power.

Note that they say they think it's the most efficient front mount - no mention of how it compares to modified side mounts or independent data showing actual velocity or comparison.

Guess some independent testing is in order.

Default where do you live? without the piggyback fan.. in hot conditions

the DUH front mount reduces cooling to the radiator.
