Default 01 2.8l transmission torque converter question

I have a 01 2.8l FWD and ive noticed a few things that are different in it than my 2.7t. the tranny struggles to reach 1st gear at the appropriate speed of 3-4mph. it gets to 1st after a few seconds after a complete stop. THIS IS ONLY UNDER HARD BRAKING. under normal it is okay.

the cars rpm are kind of high idk if it is normal or not but at 60mph it is at around 2250-2300. and my 2.7t is at 2100.

going into 4th gear the rpm shutter down twice. example after the shift to 4th it goes down a little bit say.. from 2200 to 1900 and then go down a little more a few seconds later to 1700. the car continues to accelerate during this moment.

there is a check engine on but i cant pull the codes because the ecu is not communicatiing. the ck engine usually goes on and off. last time i pulled a code it was a thermostat issue.

are these signs of a bad torque converter? the car accels great no problem

any help i can get is greatly appreciated.

From the symptoms it sounds like the lockup function in the TC isn't.
W/o VAG-COM you probably cannot diagnose it further, i.e., whether it's a problem internal to the TC or the TCM isn't telling the TC what to do or potentially a speed sensor isn't working.

Most of these cars WON'T go into first gear if they car doesn't come to a complete stop...if you roll a stop sign at 3-4 mph and then stomp on it it might or might not downshift to first.

You need to get VAG-COM working and fix the engine problem first. After than you can deal with the trans.

When was the last time the trans was serviced?

What is problem with VAG-COM? Is it the computer/adapter, or a problem with the car? Is the ABS light on too? Stock radio?

Keep in mind that he has a CEL on and a K line issue. We can't even be sure this isn't an engine problem.

Agreed. It was a SWAG...bottom line is fix the vag-com/ecu communication problem and see what's what.

i got the tranny oil changed at 75k miles for the 1st time. mechanic said there was metal in the oil pan. but the ck engine was not on at that time. it just recently started. AND ONE MORE THING IS THE CK ENGINE COMES ON AND OFF. and yes the abs is on lol and yes stock radio. everything is stock.

if i put it in tip mode and brake hard from 60 and watcvh the gears downgear from the screen, after it has reached 0mph the tranny then goes to 1st. it takes maybe 2 seconds.

can u tell me any known symptoms or what i should look out for in performace that may hint torque converter?

1. Fix the ABS - get Module Master or BBA to rebuilt the control unit.
2. Read codes from engine and trans
3. Address CEL
4. Address any TCU codes
5. Recheck trans fluid level.
