Is the '01 A6 4.2 getting lower final drive ratio?
With the recent announcement by AoA about changes to the drive ratios for U.S. bound S models, I was wondering if there are any plans to do the same with the A6 4.2 quattro.
I think as the flagship of the A6 line, the V8 model should at least quicker in off the line acceleration than a Tiptronic 2.7T. Based on owners' description of the A6 4.2, it appears that the gearing for this model was set for autobahn cruising at 130+ mph speeds, not for U.S. style driving where acceleration is far more important than top speed cruising.
Have you heard of any plans in thi area for 2001?

I don't know either but it should. Even A8's have a lower final drive (about 7%). C & D did a short
test on a A8L in their June issue. It weighed in at 4,148 lbs., heavier than an A6 4.2. While the 8 has a whopping 10 more HP, insignificant, 0-60 took 6.6 sec. The A6 4.2 should have at least a 20% lower final drive, IMO. But then again, it would probably incur the gas guzzler tax, something I imagine Audi wants to avoid.

I was driving an A6 with the 4.2 and noticed the car/transmission respond differently than the A8...
