I agree that the most difficult step is removing the alternator once everything has been disconnected. I've been stuck on that for more than a day now. I'm trying to take the alternator out the bottom of the engine bay since taking it up is obstructed by the timing belt housing and a plastic hose that's probably for emissions control. Perhaps the problem is that the alternator is obstructed by the 'electric coolant pump.' I found one reference to instructions: 'remove the electric coolant pump where it exists' or something like that, but I can not figure out how to do that. Any suggestions how to proceed would be appreciated.

Come straight out the front. Pull the entire front end forward . It should clear.

So just pull on the radiator assembly until it's far enough out to pull the alternator out? I do wonder why all the instructions say take it down through the bottom of the bay?
