Default 2000 4.2Q

I have the opportunity to get a 2000 4.2Q w/only 4000 miles on it for a really good price (audi certified). My question is, what are the advantages of the '01 model? Anything new or significantly upgraded that would make it worth the extra $$ to get a new one?
Thanks for any input!!

Default The Options you want?

Near as I can tell the only addition to the 2001 over the 2000 model year is the memory control of the passenger seat and a few thousand dollars to the sticker.

In addition the 2001 will carry a 4 year 50K mile warranty vs 3 year 50K on the 2000 model. Your driving habits will tell you if that is worth anything or not. If you drive 17K miles per year or more it means nothing.

Consider the options on the 2,000 does it have everything you want, is the color right? I would suggest that the sports package (seats/springs/wheels) are a total must.

Parking assistant: Nice toy not really needed
GPS: Yet another toy also not really needed.

If money is not an issue- go for the new one, there is nothing like having the honor of being the one who gets to put the first scratch on a new car!

Also - I think ESP was optional for 2000 and is standard for '01.

Default Disagree about the price...

The price between the 2000 and 2001 model did not really change very much. The options list became shorter as most options were now part of packages. In fact, my '01 4.2 came out ~$500 cheaper than the same '00 4.2 would have (based on MSRP).
Of course an '00 with 4000 miles will be significantly less than a new '01. I don't know what dnickels deal is but I would suggest that if the price is more than ~$42000, I would pass on it.
I agree that when your buying something like a car, whether it is a $20k or $50k car, you should get as close to exactly what you want as possible. It is usually far better to spend a couple hundred to couple thousand more for the car that satisfies completely than one that you wish was different.
I believe the current sport package only became available either as a very late '00 or as an '01. I think the sport package is a must, others may not. 17 inch wheels (pie-plates or 5spokers) are definitely a must. The 4.2 looks terrible with 16s.
Additionally, I believe, since it is Audi Certified, this car has a 5yr/75k warranty which would more than make up for the 1 1/2 year/ 4k that has been used.
Good luck, dnickels. Give some details of this deal--some may have suggestions of alternatives or pricing.
