Default 2000 A6 2.7T Known problems?

I'm seriously thinking of buying an A6 2.7T (in Canada). I've heard rumors that they have been transmission and other serious problems with this model. Is that true? What is your experience with this model? Is the 2.8 a more reliable car?

Thanks in advance.

Default No transmission problems to speak of. But....

... with the 2000 model, there is some history of turbo trouble. Other issues are minor and consistent across all A6s.

I would favor a 2001, and get a warranty of some sort. 2.8 is less prone to trouble, but nowhere near as spunky as the 2.7T.

Default Lots of synchro problems on the 6speeds though. Mainly on the S4 forum though...

results of short shifters? Dare I speculate ; )

Default 6 spd is hard to find in Canada...

...much to my regrets. I'm not sure I can live with the TipTronic.

The early 2000 production six speed transmissions had week synchros. They usually failed around the 40k mile range. Eventually the transmissions would either get stuck in gear or not shift out of neutral.

A short shifter would not cause that issue

Default Yup, pretty common. Although, I have never seen a confirmation of an

updated part number. Do you know them by chance?

It would bend the shift forks, but not damage the syncros......
