2000 A6 2.8 Hesitation
I experience a hesitation on acelerating in 1st gear on my 2000 A6 2.8. Dealer checked twice and said this is a fault of "drive by wire". It's annoying and possibly unsafe in an emergency situation. Anyone have same?

Two possibilities (mine's an '01 2.8q)...
I've noticed that accelerating from a 'near stop' (like rolling a stop sign a bit) there's a real hesitation. Getting off the gas (all the way off) for an instant and back on seems to solve it. I don't know whether the ECU intends this behavior, and I haven't tried it in Tip mode. Nor have I asked whether this is a problem that the dealer should look at.
Second, have you had the brake light switch adjusted? Mine was misadjusted at the factory, the brake lights wouldn't come on until at least an inch or so of pedal travel. I had this fixed, but the dealer went a tad too far and made it too sensitive to the point where the ECU and cruise control thought I was riding the brake. The ECU apparently interprets simultaneous accel and brake inputs as a problem and commands 'go slow'. (To the point of being unsafe at stop signs.) Backing out a bit of the brake light switch adjustment brought it back to normal.
A test for this 'too sensitive' condition is whether your cruise control works. The CC wouldn't engage since it thought I was braking.
Hope this helps, and if you get it resolved, please let us know.

My '01 has a similar hitch
When this has come up before on the board, it's been noted that when shifting from R to D, if you don't stop completely or shift a bit too fast, the car gets confused and it takes a beat to start. Mine definitely does this.

Re: 2000 A6 2.8 Hesitation
I am having same problem on my 01' 2.7 .Dealer said he could not find anything??... relayed the "Drive by wire " comment ...and suggested that I might be on the brake at the same time ..(Right!!) ... very anoying and dangerous at a right turn into traffic when you expect the normal acceleration !!! --any comments ???
