Default 2nd fuel sender done and more...

Also had the radio display replaced for the 2nd time. My CD changer was slowly starting to give me message errors, until it finally quite all together. They ended up replacing the whole changer. I've haven't heard of anyone else here with changer problems. After having changers for 15 years, this was the first failure I'd ever experienced.

As usual, Rector Motor Cars (Burlingame, Ca.) took great care of me! They ended up having the car for 4 days (including the weekend), but, because I told them "take your time," I think it took longer then usual. All of their A6 loaners were out, so they rented me a Dodge Dorango (which I didn't want, but it was all they had). It turned out to be much nicer then expected (for an SUV), but sure used a lot of gas! Plus, I needed to haul some wheels & tires around this past weekend, so it was perfect! It sure felt good to get back in my car! I still don't get why people choose SUV's over a good sports sedan or wagon.

Default I had an Explorer (Exploder?) last time my car was in the shop

And I had to keep it overnight. Couldn't get me out of that POS fast enough. It even had Firestone Wilderness A/T tires! I mentioned it to the rental dude (who was about 15) and he didn't know what I was talking about.

Default I once returned a rental Cadillac Escalade after 1 day...

because I hated driving it so much! I told the rental place, "give me anything, I can't stand driving this thing anymore!" The young guys working their thought I was nuts, saying "this is the nicest vehicle we have." Just shows you how the general public thinks (and mislead).

Default I hate the "upgrade" system. When I reserve a Focus, it's because I like to drive

it more than Taurus or Town car. Alas, Enterprise no longer rents Miatas:-(

Default Yeah, when I got the Escalade, I'd reserved a Saab 9.5...

they were out of the Saabs, so they "upgraded" me to the Escalade...some upgrade!

Default I'm Beginning to Have Mixed Feelings.....

about Rector. On one hand, I have always had excellent dealings with their sales staff and management. On the other hand, since the "changes" in the service department (loosely defined from the point when Hector was bumped upstairs ;-), I have had three service visits and two of them have been far less than scintillating. Twice they have failed to have the car ready when promised and once (just a couple of days ago) they even forgot to call me and let me know that they weren't going to finish (the fuel sender recall). As a result, I wound up schlepping from Menlo Park to Burlingame and dropping off a perfectly fine A4 rental to find out that I had to rent another car (this time a Saturn, whoopeee!) to get back home during rush hour. In a previous experience, the rental I got had ripped floorboards and no gas.

Now, I guess these things happen, but when I make an appointment three weeks in advance for a known repair (LH recall) and show up first in line in the AM, I don't expect any problems. The good news in this episode is that I did not receive any push back to Rector renting me a car for two more days since I had business obligations that prevented me from picking up the A6 until earlier this evening.

Get it together, folks ;-)

Default Rector's not perfect...

but I think they're really trying. It's tough these days with trying to find good help, plus, with all the construction, it's got to be pretty crazy around their! When you get a rental car from Enterprise, go straight into Rector and find out if your car's ready first. If it is, they will return it to Enterprise for you. In any event, Rector is much better then those guys just to the South!

BTW, I think Hector is back downstairs. He is a nice guy!

Default Don't drop off the rental...just leave it in front of the dealer...

I never return it myself, let Enterprise come get it. Sometimes I just pick up the car after hours and leave the keys through the mail slot...they get it the next day.
They try hard, they are not perfect, but as long as they are trying and treating me well and perform adequately, I'll keep going. Much better than those ***-clowns at Royal or the rude tight-asses at Negherbon.

Default Progressive Insurance investigation vehicles are Exploders and they STILL have...

Wilderness AT tires on them (just saw one yesterday). Amazing! Even the insurance guys don't give a **** if their trucks roll over and kill themselves!
