4.2 Gas milage / fuel sender

4.2 Gas milage / fuel sender
My trip computer has calculated between 20 and 21 MPG for the first 16K miles, although I don't think I ever verified it manually. At my 16K service, the dealer replaced the fuel sender and now the computer calculates between 17 and 18 MPG. Same driving, same gas. Any body having the same experience and what MPG do you get?

Re: 4.2's have the gas gauge problem. Mine was replaced and the new one was
worse than the one they replaced. I've also filled my gas tank up with 22.4 gals of fuel even though the manual says the tank is only 21.3.
Normally I reset my odometer at each fill up and drive 300 miles before the next fill up.
Go figure!

Re: 4.2 Gas milage / fuel sender
Many posts here report trip computers which are about 1-2 mpg optimistic. For me, in mixed driving (30 mph avg) real mpg varies between 15.5 and 17. Yuk. But it's worth it. Best mpg has been about 21 on a long trip.
Fuel sender still OK after 7.5K miles (fingers crossed). The sender is a little sketchy around 1/2 tank, though. The gauge drops pretty fast in that range.
