4.2 paint chipping
My Ming Blue 4.2 has excessive front bumper paint chipping for a 7 month old car. I've seen this mentioned before on the forum and was wondering if it occurs on all A6 models or just 4.2's. I don't see this kind of wear on Merc E-Class or BMW 5 Series or other 2.8's and 2.7's. Thanks for your input. Great forum and great car

I have asked two body shops I trust (more)
Both say that Audi is responsible as they did not us the proper paint "flex"...is what they called it. Basically, the lower valance panel is softer plastic, and when a rock hits it - the panel flexes but the paint does not - so it chips.
They're both of the opinion that Audi should fix it under warranty.

Re: What caused the paint to chip off??
Is it from excessive stone chips?? or from parking dents hitting other cars parallel parking..? Audis seem more prone to blemished bumpers since it is body paneled throughout with a clean design, and has no rubber stripping, or a bumper guard like on BMW's or Mercedes..

Re: What caused the paint to chip off??
Mine are caused by stone chips primarily caused by a couple of 1000+ trips thru Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina taken this past spring. My normal highway speed is 70 to 85 mph depending on traffic.I can"t imagine what condition these bumpers are in after 2 or 3 years of Autobahn driving at much higher speeds. Paint is probably not what it used to be. My friend's 95 A6 has held up much better. He also has a 2 year old Boxster without this problem. I'll bring it up with dealer at the 8000 mi. service. Thanks for your input.
