but 530i is almost the perfect car for me. 530 isn't as slow as you think. In fact, in the most recent test in c&D it tie with 2.7 (both auto) from 0-60mph and would get far better mpg and handling. Unless you really love Audi or live where it snows I would get 530i unless you couldn't get past the bargain of a 2.7

My experience echoes MarkItZero's completely; the BMW 530i has a smaller interior, unimpressive fit and finish, noticably smaller rear leg room and ridiculously small trunk with no pass through.

The 540i was little better (although the difference in power was far greater than the 530i).

Oh, and we had the same salesman babbling on about the superb ride and driving dynamics. I test drove in Honolulu...

I bought a 2002 4.2 and cannot imagine anything touching it for the model year (in terms of quality, fit and finish, space, and unique design). The 4.2 power is more than adequate, and I don't road race. We have no freeways where I live. I own the only A6 4.2 (2002 model year in black/black with Prem and Cold pkg, 20% tint) on the island of Hawaii and I like it that way.
BMWs are a dime a dozen here.
