99 A6 Driver Info Display
Does anyone know how to fix the Driver Information Display in the center of the instrument cluster? My screen is fairly illegible (pixilated) and I would like to repair it so that I can read the information that is displayed.

Thanks for the help. I went to their website. It looks like they are more interested in selling software. Do you know anyone who has sent something there? There are two other firms listed on the web when I did some searching. One in Richmond (Southern Electronics) and one in Boston area (BBA Re-manufacturing). BBA charges $350. I contacted Southern, but have not heard back. Do you know anything about these other firms?

I got word from a rep at modulemaster.com and they said that the next shipment of displays they are getting have a better-than-oem look: i guess better color/contrast, etc. (expected hopefully sometime in August 2009 here....)
To make things a little more clear, I'll try to explain about the screens a bit more. Many people have used a replica screen made in asia somewhere, and many photos of this screen have shown that it has very poor contrast which means that the entire screen is bright. I've heard from a few posts that people wish that they could turn down the brightness which is caused from a lack of contrast.
Another screen that has been used as a replacement is one that has been made in europe somewhere. This one is much closer to the OEM contrast and color brightness and looks much better than the asian versions. I know for a fact that the guys at modulemaster.com know this and are trying to find the best screen for the job. Supposedly they found a supplier that has a high-thermal property which means that this screen should last for much more than the one-decade that the OEM one did (hot/cold cycles has caused the most damage in these cars for me).

We discontinued the LCD repair because we ran out of LCD panels. While these were good LCD's (not the cheap Asian aftermarket ones), we have on order a superior quality LCD with much higher thermal properties. They can handle up to 300 deg. F and look just as good as the OEM in terms of color, brightness, and contrast. So it'll be well worth the wait. These LCD's also come with a lifetime warranty.

I will plan on contacting ModuleMaster later in the month to get the new display type. This is great information. I didn't realize that they replaced the display in the repair process and that there were brightness issues.
Can I run the car without the instrument cluster without setting off some electronic alarms somewhere in the car? I may need to drive to work while it is being repaired. This would not be ideal since I would not have access to any alarm signals, but I am close to my office and the car is well maintained.

If your car is one capable of being driven, you will throw a number of codes that will need to be cleared once you receive the cluster back and for that you’ll need the Vag-Com software.
All that said, I wouldn’t drive the car again without the instrument cluster. I took a calculated risk based transport needs and knowing my car's service history. I still scanned it before removal and also made sure all my fluids were topped off.
