99 A6 info
I am looking to buy a 99 A6 Avant, and I know one of the cars I am looking at is a late model-year car, as it was originally sold in October 1999, but it does not have the in-dash CD. It has the cassette and the door over the radio. Are there any specific problems I should be aware of on this car? What kind of things do I need to look out for? Do these cars have enough potential issues to make it worth buying an extended warranty? Thanks in advance.

and if we do answer..we will first make fun of you for being so dumb that you cant even search..our time is very important..and only questions regarding something that has never ever been discussed are allowed here..

You know what's funny??
My post is EXACTLY as helpful as your post!!
Stating "no problems" is not helpful to anyone. At least my post doesn't give them a false sense of secuirty.
My '99 has had about $3000 worth of warranty work done to it in the one year that I've owned it. If you want to know what they are I've posted most of them so a search will turn them up.
Yes, I actually am too busy to go through and state all those items AGAIN. On the otherhand, I'll gladly post every item in detail if you come write my thesis for me!
Now go crawl back under your "no problems" A6!!

Re: 99 A6 info
If you have the Concert stereo, which you've described, then you have an earlier build '99. The VIN has two central numbers, either 24 or 34; the 34 indicates the Enhanced Security Package which consists of Xenon lights and rear air bags.
Check to see if the front end groans during turns, that could be bad control arm bushings and cost about $800 to repair. Check for engine oil leaks, seemingly anywhere, but mainly around the cams and head.
Do a run through for the electrics: windows, mirrors, seats (heat if you have it), radio, sunroof.
The car should come with a cargo net and reflective triangle in the trunk. Also look in the rear armrest for a first aid kit. Check under the steering wheel for the owner's packet consisting of owner's manual, radio manual, and various ownership documents.
If I think of more, I'll add it later. Good luck.
