A6 2.7T Turbo
#11
Document refers to Euro A6 2.7T at 230HP (vs USA at 250HP) right?
The A6 2.7T is the first European car I've ever heard of with MORE power in US variant! Usually the US version of a given powerplant is detuned - E.g. S4 in USA @ 250HP vs 268? in Europe.<p>Richard

Document refers to both A6 and S4 versions.
page 01 says "This engine will be used in the Audi S4 and the Audi A6".
It then goes on to say "A tuning protective device prevents the S4 control unit being installed in the A6! <b>This prevents misuse, which can result in damage to the drivetrain!</b>"
So apparently the A6 drivetrain can't handle the higher output version of the 2.7T. This of course makes no sense, since it's the same transmission and differential (at least the same ratios, but why would Audi build different ones with the same values?). Of course I suppose there are other drivetrain components that might be different, but I can't imagine they would be sensitive to the 30 HP difference.
I think the real reason that the A6 is detuned in europe is to avoid competition with the S6. As I've posted before (in alt.autos.bmw of all places):
According to www.audi.de the S4 and the S6 have the same acceleration
(0-100kmh in 5.7s). Since the A6 2.7T and the S4 have the same empty
weight (1540 kg) putting the european S4's 2.7T engine into the A6 should
make a car which has acceleration very close to the S6 (probably not
quite as good since the A6 is a larger car than the S4 and therefore wind
resistance is more of an issue, but I'd bet it would be close (in the US the
identically engined A6 2.7T and the S4 are within 0.1 seconds of each other,
according to www.audi.com)).

That was my point - Euro numbers in docs vs Audiablo's US model in reality
Since Audiablo has a US model A6 2.7T, he's got the same 250HP as a US model S4.<p>Richard

Well that one doesn't move even after 5-10 minutes of normal driving!
