The A6 Mod Game

The A6 Mod Game
Hey all, lets play a little game called "Whats the best order to MOD my 4.2?"
It's a drill for all, not just us V8 fans. Here's how to play: Stage these modifications in the order they should be performed so nothing needs to be done over. Here goes, and feel free to add or delete mods that you deem unnecessary. (But explain why!)
1. Air Filter
2. Exhaust
3. Wheels and Tire
4. Suspension
5. Brakes
6. Chip-Engine
7. Chip-Tiptronic
8. Window Tinting
9. Steering Relay Defeat
10.other (describe)
What I intend to do is document/post the results of this and execute the "staging" this summer. Thanks to Brian, Darrell, et al for their inspiration.
-Loeber Motors in Chicago already hates me...
-You will all be credited for your input if I spin a website off of this.
-Why isn't there a tuner in the midwest? If I can't get this thing closer to an S6 I'm gonna spend the money on a Harley.
-Anyone want to start a Chicago are A6 club? The A4 Quattro group doesn't talk to me anymore, right Johnny?

Re: The A6 Mod Game
1. Window Tinting - must have in hot climate, but cool looking if done right.
2. Steering Relay Defeat - makes a huge difference on mine.
3. Chip-Tiptronic - everyone on this forum bitches about the tip. Plus it seems as if there is no warranty issue with this.
4. Wheels, tires, Suspension, Brakes. Realy realy depends on how you drive. 4.2 with sport package seems pretty good on all these already
5. Exhaust - I hate the way mine sounds.
6. Chip-Engine baes on warranty issues
7. Air Filter - a complete waste of money

'00 4.2 Quattro non-sport
I took delivery in November, the sport option package wasn't available. This car doesn't have the traction control, either. Silver/Ambition/Pieplates with some Altoids in the armrest.
This is why I am so anxious!

Just like Jim (Fort Worth) said
The only thing I would consider moving up would be the Tip Chip and get a GIAC Tip chip. To date it is the only Tip chip that actually speeds up the shifts. It does have a hunting problem at 4k rpm when in Tip mode - switches while in 4th gear, to 5th and back while keeping a constant 4k rpm. I Dont regard as too much a problem, since it only happens in Tip mode and in 4th at a constant 4k. If you are accelerating through the 4k then no problem.
The change in shift response makes the car much more enjoyable.
One thing to consider is getting a spare Tip computer box and upgrade that one and leave the stock box alone. The Tip box has little bendable tabs on it that you need to bend to open/close the box. They will break off!, Thats why I suggest a spare box.
If you decide to put in an ECU chip , get tires that can handle higher speed limits since I believe that most remove the limitier. I dont know what tires are on the 4.2 but nonsport 2.7Ts were getting H rated tires so that was a big consideration when chipping.
