Default Yep, that just how an open differential acts. Once you pass the bias limit...

...on the gearing in a TorSen diff it will behave as an open diff. It's only good upto the bias limit.

Of course, EDL blurs the line a little...until your brakes overheat

Default It doesn't put any strain on the Torsen differential...it just...

..shifts the torque split. Think about, if one set of axles is spinning faster than the other that would be "slippage". To keep the system "happy" the worm gears would start to allow for the differentiation. No you no longer have a 50/50 split; you have more traction to the larger tires.

The only reason they caution against this is because it changes the split and therefore can change the handling of the car.

Default Obviously you've noticed that your mechanic was wrong....

I will also add that if the TorSen diff went out the car won't move at all w/o modification.

Replace in pairs. Only need to due all four if they are all worn down. But nobody would run crappy tires anyway right?

Default Re: I'd find another mechanic, you didn't buy a Subaru.

Maybe you should. Great cars especially the Turbo Foresters

If great = small and ugly, then yes, they are great.

Default That's more for safety when using the...

...space saver than anything to do with the differentials. Space saver spares do not have the same capabilities of a road tire.
