A6 shimmy

A6 shimmy
Took my 2002 A6 2.7t in for shimmy for the 3rd time--This time to replace the entire rear differental assembly that was shipped to them. Dealer called said that they just replaced the rear diff in another customers A6 and it did not solve the shimmy so they cancelled mine. They also took a new 2003 out for a ride and it also had a shimmy. They are still working on the other customers car and will call me when they find a solution--in the mean time I am having my tires(215-55-16 conti's) balanced on the Hunter machine with the load wheel at a local tire dealer--Audi dealer is interested in the outcome of that--I will press Audi for a reinbursement for the balance job(about $50.00) If it improves. The shimmy gets worse if I lower the tire pressure on the front tires..??!! Should have got another Passat--much smoother and $17k less

Ask dealer to replace tires. I am surprized they did not do re-balanceing already.
ask dealer if they will replace 4 wheels with another car that does not shimmy just to see if that solves the problem.
