A6 speedometer

Any thoughts on erratic speedometer function? What is the pathway from the tires to the speedometer? Can a left front wheel problem cause erratic speedometer function?

spinning tires?...i think only fronts are involved...my spedo goes nuts if i floor it in the snow

No it isn't a tire issue, -- I'm getting different opinions about where the speed pickup is- in the left fron axle or in the transmission and whether grease can affect the pick up.
