A6 Width
All the brochures and on-line specs claim that A6s of all flavors are 76.1 inches wide. This is about half a foot wider than competitive cars. It's even wider than the Volvo S-80, which has a transverse six, and is a full two inches wider that the width of the A-8 in R&Ts '97 test. Does anyone know what is going on here? Is this a mistake, or does Audi measure differently?

The 2.7T is much wider that my '97 1.8T. I have to be very careful until I get used to the wider track. I pinched the sidewall of the LF Conti. only 877 mi on it at $100 it teaches a lesson. I hope that Audi has not taken the Pontiac idea that "wider is better"

My A6 Avant doesn't feel that wide to me, but then I came from a 93 Eagle Vision (= Dodge Intrepid) that was 74.4" wide (~2" narrower than the A6A) and 201.7" long (~9" longer). It really feels much smaller than the Eagle, probably because the steering is so much more precise.
I was also looking at Volvo V70's when I bought the A6A. One of the reasons I liked the A6 better was because there's a perception of extra "space" in the front cabin, such that you didn't feel you were *right next* to the passenger. There's only ~2" more front interior shoulder room in the A6, but it just felt better to me.
