Has anyone changed a 2002 car from the standard tiptronic steering wheel (3-spoke) to the multifunction+tip steering steering wheel (4-spoke)? (My car is a 2002 S6, but it does not have the Telematics option that came with the 4-spoke wheel).

Dealer price on the wheel and airbag is about $1800, but before I even consider that I'm curious about whether the car will recognize the wheel with a a software change, whether there are other problems I'm not considering, etc.

Probably requires a new wiring harness, too.

Maybe someone local to you is willing to swap with and do surgery on both cars. Assuming the colours match.

Interesting. I have a 2002 A6 w/ the 4 spoke tip steering wheel. I might be interested in a swap for the 3 spoke sport steering wheel with tip controls. What color is yours?

Maybe I'm slow, but I'm not seeing a post about that from recent days.

Let's assume that I were able to swap with someone who wanted the 3-spoke sport steering wheel from an S6. Is it just a matter of the self-cancelling ring and changing the software so the car knows to listen to the audio controls on the wheel?
