Advice on fixing up my bumper
Hi,
I backed up into a concrete pole the other day and now my rear bumper has some deep scratches in it (not just surface scratches; you can definitely feel the gouges).
Sorry if this is a beginner question, but what is a good, preferably inexpensive way i can go about fixing this up so it looks pretty good (not necessarily perfect)? Please tell me where I can buy any products that you suggest I buy (auto supply store, dealer, mail-order places, etc).
Also, any hints on removing some paint marks on my car from other punks opening their car doors into mine?
Thanks for your help!
Mike

Re: Advice on fixing up my bumper
I picked up a little paint after a parking problem. I used nail polish remover and some elbo grease with a rag. It worked fine and then I put the wax back on. It will only work to remove excess, non original, paint. I do not know if this is really bad with the paint or not so do it at your own risk.

Find an auto paint supplier (not a parts store)and see if they have a flexible filler you can use to fill the scratches before you use the paint. They also can custom mix the plastic finish used on bumpers, but you may not want to buy the minimum size available ($$) and its not a do-it-yourself product. Its also important to use a solvent to remove all traces of wax.

easiest way to remove "donated" paint
Is with a clay bar. In your local auto store's detailing section. It will just "erase" the paint on top.
If you don't want to spend $20 on it, then elbow grease and your fingernail will do the job more slowly.

hit a traffic cone today (high speed), left plastic & paint on my bumper (more)
Took some Meguilar's cleaner wax to the area and the paint came off quickly. Applied clear coat wax on top. Good as new, as far as paint is concerned. This won't help scratches I don't think.
