Default Which all season tires for a 1999 A6Q Avant

Hi folks,

time to replace my tires. Currently running original 205/55-16's. Don't want to spend the money to go to 17' or 18' rims. Was wondering which tires people have liked in the 16' range? I live in Chicago so snow is a factor.

Thanks!

Todd

I am in the same boat. I need to replace the stock Goodyears this winter. The continental ContiExtremeContact has received good reviews on tire rack and is reasonably priced. If you are looking for tires that will last a little longer, you may want to look at the ContiTouring contact.

Default I like the ContiExtremeContacts a lot.

I've put them on both my '99 A6 Avant and Mercedes 230SLK within the past few months. They're V rated all-season tires with a 400 treadwear rating. I drove the Avant through one late winter storm here in the NE and the tires seemed to take to the snow/ice pretty well.

Default I have driven Nokian WR, NRW and Bridgestone LM-22

From my experience these are all better as snow tires and cold weather tires than "summer" use tires. They also drive well on gravel. Of them, the LM-22 had the best high speed stability. The NRW was best in snow and gravel. WR drove well, but that was a brief drive on mixed surfaces in a borrowed car.

Most "M+S" rated tires are different, in that they provide a more balanced compromise. They can go is snow if they have to, they go well in rain. Sumitomo and SP5000 are good, Toyo FZ4 is very popular in Canada, where they should know.

Default I have Dunlop SP Sport A2 on my Avant...

Best rated all-season performance tire (H-rated) by consumer reports in November 2002. They are really good in rain and snow. Should wear well too. We kept 205-55-16 because of the potholes in Cleveland, and it is my wifes car.
