This evening the blower motor started vibrating so badly that at any fan speed beyond the first tick mark it vibrates the dash.

Also, is there not supposed to be a cover over my cabin air filter?

If you mean the filter just below the corner of the windshield under the hood. In fact without it, it's a disaster in the making. First rain or even car wash and your carpet will flood and then your AT computer will swim and die. Need to replace that cover like instantly.

The HACE fan is annoying, but at least easy to replace. There are now several aftermarket OE suppliers now too. I'm on my third on my 2000, owned since new.

Update on this. Pulled it out to investigate and discovered it had ingested a rat. Eeeewwwwww!

As far as the cabin air filter goes.. it should look like this once you pull off the long black cover laying acrose the engine right?

Yes. From all the research I've done that fender to fender plastic piece is all the cover our cabin filters get.

Out 2002 A4 had a lid on the filter box underneath the cowl cover.
