Another overheating 4.2

Another overheating 4.2
I've joined the ranks of the unfortunate 4.2 owners who've experienced failure of their thermostat. I just bought my 2000 with about 49300 miles, at 50055, it started overheating. Since the shop (indie) now has to tear into the engine, I would like to replace the waterpump at the same time. From what I've been reading in this forum, it's likely to go soon as well. The shop quoted me $300 for that part. Is that appropriate? Is there a good online parts dealer you would recommend? Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

they are expensive for this motor
but the entire job timing belt, tensioners, rollers, w/pump, thermostat and serpentine belt should not be more than $1000.00 parts and labor
do the entire timing belt job
do the entire timing belt job

Re: they are expensive for this motor
With belt they quoted me about $800, pump was extra, estimated at $250-300 for the part. Thought I saw people saying that's a $150-200 part if bought direct....

Surprise ! You need to call them.
You're dreaming if you think most dealers would post endless parts on the net. If you call them, as an Audi dealer you can buy any part available.
The one indie place I know with pretty detailed listings on the net is Blaufergnugen. I attached the link to the water pump page.

http://www.audiquattroparts.com/water_pumps.htm</a
