TBB: Here's two links
My suggestion would be to replace it every 6 months or so. This kind of part (rubber) ages, so the failure rate is rather low at first then inflects upwards pretty quick. Replacement is easy, cost is cheap, so it is good insurance.

Yes, S4 owners chip and push much more than A6 users...
But, I think that this simply accelerates the failure. Rubber parts such as this will tend to fail eventually if the design allows for such a failure mode as we are seeing.
I'd keep a spare one in the trunk, and even replace it every 6 monthy or a year. Cheap insurance.

Could there be a difference in the cooling, airflow, or the actual vibration the TBB gets on an S4

Be careful on the install, don't lose anything to the Black Hole engine compartment.
I did and what a pain to retrieve it. Had to dismantle the whole under side protective cover just to get it out. NO more for me, uh huh. I don't go there no more! Make friends at the service shop and have them do it for a six pack or two.
Like you said, Good idea to keep a spare, just in case.
Sorta wonder do they tear because something harmful may happen to engine if they didn't? And if they make them stronger does it allow the harmful over boost or whatever to damage something further down the line? Just wondering.

Nah - there is a boost popoff valve I would think - or the computer senses it
It is just a poor design, from the shape or the material. I rememebr my old 2002tii used to eat window regulators, door brakes and 2nd gear synchros.<p>2000 A6 2.7t Andorra Red Mica/Melange
