Anybody had problems with tranny in A6
My 95 A6 is starting to slip a little. I switched to the factory recommended synthetic about 40k ago. I know they don't have a diptstick so I don't know if the car is low. Any ideas should I ad oil,or take it to the dealer and have them check it.

Re: Anybody had problems with tranny in A6
I have the same model and year. My problem started when I found transmission fluid in the rad. Apparenly the tranny oil cooler had devloped a leak. The problem gets worse since the potential is there for the tranny to suck antifreeze and water back into the tranny. The water of course will damage the clutch's etc. Not trying to scare you but check out the contents of your rad. My tranny was damaged and required a rebuild....

Yeah, but dealer refused to acknowlege it; and don't get me started on this....
I have a 2001 2.7t and from begining this is one of the most difficult manual transmission I've worked with. I own a 1992 NX 2000 (great transmission still on original clutch after 120,000 miles) a 1999 1/2 1.8t Avant (with shorter throw and much smoother clutch pick-up).
After already owning an Audi I was surprised that the 6 speed in the A6 is much harder to work smoothly, making a relaxing drive harder. Don't know if my car was a bad sample. When I first take the car off the lot it had 100 miles on it. I am guessing most who test drove the car would drive it hard since that's what the saleman encouraged me to do when I test drove it so I am guessing the clutch might be a little sticky after all the hard driving.
Then there this incident where I want stuck on a 40 degree hill with a f*%#@! driver stopped at the top of the one lane street to enjoy the view. I used the hand brake technique i did so many time and let go the hand brake after I felt the clutch engaged; first the car moved a bit when rpm hit 2000 so i fed more gas with clutch fully released and guess what, the clutch went up in smoke. I don't know if this is due to my own error or not, but Audi's are know for their weak clutch. I have been driving sticks since 1991 and had no problem before with other cars. After that the clutch became really sticky. It vibrates everytime off first gear if I feed any throttle at all before the clutch is fully released. So I had to slowly creep out the lane during traffic to get out smoothly; makes me look like a fool.
So I brought it back to dealer had them look at it; they say everything is fine and day by day the clutch gets better now; not as sticky anymore after 2000 miles after that incident. But I should have just get the free auto-transmittion. Audi makes lousy manual transmission; TT in the only exception; A4 are fine but this 6 speed on the A6 is not what I was looking for after driving a friends 540 six speed.
