Do a search for Moderators, no.radar did a post last year and I can't link it, wait ...
I'll cut and paste it:
5/22/03 Feedback Forum post by Jason Teller (AudiWorld's "Neo"). [Not sure why I can't link to the message...probably a Matrix issue of some sort.[
TEXT (scroll down for moderators names)...
I know that you weren't trying to start a debate anyway, so I'm not coming down on you.
The "send an e-mail to tell every single person why a post was deleted" is just plain
laborious. First of all there is an (unfortunately) large group of people who create fake
accounts or who just get a crazy streak through them who definitely know that what they
are posting is a problem. They are being defiant or just feeling wild, but whatever the case it
would be a complete waste of time to notify them because it would be like telling the 500 lb.
person that they are overweight. Duh, they know that.
Second, there is fact that this notification would lead to potential debates about the merits of
the decision. The last thing any moderator wants to do is to spend a bunch of time explaining
or debating why a decision was made.
Third, the forums are in general a real time thing. Posts move from page 1 to page 2 in a
matter of hours sometimes. A post gone missing is not such a major event - or conspiracy -
that it has to be coupled with an explanation. If it was deleted it's because it violated the
ToU. The users have to trust that website and the moderators that there are no vendettas
or other strange reasons for posts to disappear for no reason.
Fourth, there are really less moderators than you think. For a long time I thought that they
should be secret only so they didn't receive a bunch of harrassing e-mail from users who
were unhappy with being moderated. But at this point I think people have a strong feeling
that the moderators should be public knowledge. We have nothing to hide... and I think this
group of moderators is generally in synch with one another and with the ebb and flow of the
site.
They are:
Johannes
Jason
Neil
Don
Steve Sherwood
Daphne
Joseph P. Hillenburg
John Stahmann
Shaun
Taner Halicioglu
Rich_W
LongWolf (Christian)
Ming 2.7T
number7 (Mick)
