Audi is not the only car with "unintended acceleration"!
My parents have a '98 Outback which, now twice has just decided to "floor itself"...the gas pedal just moves by itself quickly to the floor and the engine and car surge...not very comforting. Well, apparently, this same problem has been reported to Subaru numerous times and nothing has been done so far. Local Subaru in NY, of course, claims no knowledge...but the car will be sold once it's fixed or bought back by Subaru...they have a battle going on which will likely get bigger.
Now, trying to convince them that the Passat GLX 4-motion wagon is the way to go...money is an issue...no Audis

"Corporate Denial" strikes again...
Sounds like this is becoming a safety issue for your parents. I sincerely hope not because if something serious should happen the guilty party would have to face the "rath of Finman" (which no one should have to face). Seriously though, it needs to be taken care of one way or another (either fixed or a different car) before something happens. Hope all works out in the end.

It's a sticky situation because of all the liabilities. (Devil's advocation position)
Can you blame them? If they could openly work on the problem without fear of unrelated or blown-out-of-proportion liability, they might not have to do that.
P.S. I don't want them hiding anything, of course.

Any cases of unintended deceleration??
With my volvo S90 one of the many cpu's in it fried out on the highway and the car glided to a restful stop in the fast lane. I've also had instances were the brake assist goes over board and if I tap the brake...it goes in further than intended and car comes to an annoying crawl. I am not sure whats worse?? unintended acceleration or unintended deceleration
