Default Audi's and Fire

My Audi A6 Quattro (2000) caught on Fire. I have posted the pictures here. The car was well maintained at an authorized Audi dealer (HBL) and apparently has a history to catch on fire. A recall was performed on it a few years ago -- no-one told us. And another recall is in the works since the cars still catch on fire. Don't buy an Audi. The company is ruthless; it accepts responsibility but will not do anything else.
by the way: I escaped with my 6 month old baby as the car caught on fire in the middle of the road.

Default Sorry to hear about your loss and glad you made it out OK. What caused the fire? I

know that there was a recall for the instrument cluster wiring IIRC, what is the new recall for?

Audi accepted liability for the fire. The fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring behind the dashboard. As you can see by the photos the fire was ALL internal; which makes it more dangerous. There were flames coming from the drivers side AC vents towards the drivers seat; check out the photos. Audi has stated that another recall "is in the works." I was a loyal Audi driver but after their attitude why should I remain loyal to a company which does not value driver safety? At least 23 other A6s have caught on fire while parked...

Seems as if the first recall did not fix the problem. They have not said what the new one is for; just that cars are still catching on fire and they are figuring out why.

Default if it was on fire in the middle of the road, why does it look like it is parked in a driveway now?

As a parent, that picture showing the child seat is haunting... Glad everyone's OK.

so - if you are considering litigation, do you think this is a good idea?

Default i'm glad everyone is safe....

if Audi has recognized it, I hope you have gotten a settlement. file a complaint with the feds and get a new car.

i am in no way defending Audi, but lean towards more that you can have with your family by moving on rather than the stress and aggrevation.

if you sue, you will have to prove harm and damage. if everyone escaped, then it's limited. if the ins. co or Audi is paying for the car, and some change for inconvenience, then there is little gain except maybe for some lawyer.
