Avant Roof Rack
#3
Go to an independent bicycle dealer and ask for Thule system.
I have it on my 99 avant works great. The foot pack you will need is #715 about $115 then you have to get cross bars and bike carriers. There is also an Audi/VW foot pack cross bar combo, but I can't remember $ off hand. I believe that Thule has a web site you can check.

Does the Avant have factory rails to mount the rack to? I can't remember...
If not, and you have to use the Thule fit kit: I was extremely disapointed with my Thule mounting kit on the sedan. The wind noise was unbeleivable at speeds over 60mph. The rack was great on several other cars, but they sure f'd up with the A6 kit IMHO. I don't even use my rack any more. Yakima users don't seem to have this complaint.
Food for thought.

Thule has a foot kit that will mount to the factory rails on the avant.
I dont have a fairing on mine yet, I'm going to cut down the one from my landcruiser to fit. Even with the sunroof open I don't get much noise at highway speeds or around town. My buddy has a Yackrack and no matter how tight we try to get it on his car, it keeps wanting to slide backwards. Regardless of who makes what, some where there will be a disapointed customer.

Factory rails totally eliminates my complaint. The wind noise is not...
an issue due to the rack itself, heck they all make noise. The problem is that the sedan mounting kit doesn't clamp very well onto the door frames. the result is that both door seals are broken and a gap of approx 1mm allows way too much of that noise into the cabin.
I sure wish the sedan had those concealed factory mounting points in the roof like the TT does.
