BMWs Lack Of Quality Might Tilt Me To Audi
I'm considering the new generation 5 Series, when it comes out, but am also considering a new A6. But, I'm really shocked at what I'm reading about the poor quality of the materials used in the interior of the new BMW 745, which I imagine will also be used with the new 5 Series, since the 745 is the flagship--Cheap wood, extensive use of plastic pieces made to look like aluminum (it's still plastic), and other inferior materials inappropriate in a $95,000 automobile. In contrast, by all appearances, Audi uses much higher quality materials in the interiors of their cars and because of this, as well as the other important elements of Audi's, I'm tilting toward going with an A6.

I'm surprised they use cheapo plastic to look like aluminum!
The Chuckster, I'm sure, disagrees...but clearly the materials used in the interior of the Audis (A6 and up) are superior to those used in the 5-series...not that the BMW's are bad, just not as nice. Audi plastic feels like firm rubber, BMW's feels almost like foam rubber, the leathers are comparable, the Audis have nice real aluminum surrounds around the vents, the BMWs is plastic, etc, etc... Chuck may argue however, which is more important dry pavement handling or aluminum around the vents...which is legitimate...but you are definitely correct as far as interior materials go...the Audis is superior A+ vs A-, IMO.
I haven't seen a new 7-series up close, but I am surprised to hear they went cheapo...hopefully, I'll get to see one soon. Either way you can't go wrong with the Audi.

Gotta have some priorities
Yes you sit in the interior and see it all the time, but is that really the only determining factor when buying a car? I sure hope not. That's like people who say that they are buying X car because it's so pretty. That's deep.
Look at the whole BMW package (all the aspects of the car + your servicing dealer), compare to the whole Audi and Merc package, and then make an informed decision.
IMHO, if you buy a new gen 5 series you might as well paint SUCKER on your forehead and start taking telemarketing calls too. You're asking for trouble.
