Default Brakes Question

Under warranty I just had all new rotors and pads put on my car. I have put about 1000 miles on these new rotors and pads. Now when I brake the car shutters like the wheels are going to come off. They told me this is a normal accurance. How can the rotors warp after 1000 miles of regular driving? They also said people who drive 2.7 usually drive hard and brake hard leading to this problem. I think that is a bunch of crap. This car has 44,000 miles and may now going through its second set of rotors.

Any comments?

Default Re: or...

If the car did not shimmy before , then warped rotors and or they did not clean the hubs/rotor surface properly. They is another possiblity, if they did not remove the protective coating that they put on the rotors for storage/shipping, the pads will glaze over. This can cause a shudder sometimes during braking.

Default Did the car shudder before?

I once had this problem so the dealer replaced the front rotors and pads but the problem didn't go away. I went driving with the mechanic and hed tried using the parking brake to see if the shudder was from the rear, it was so they replaced the rear pads and rotors and the shudder went away.

Default Has the installer looked at it since they did the work? Or was it a telephone diagnosis?

Certainly sounds as if they cannot simply blow it off as "normal".

Default Another possibility: Neddy tightened the wheels

When I had my tires replaced under the recall, the almost-new-under-warranty brakes immediately began shuddering. Diagnosis: whoever replaced the rims cranked em unevenly or way too hard. The dealer replaced the pads and rotors again. No trouble since.

Also, because so many A6s have the brake issue, reground rotors are the norm. Presumably not all of them are perfectly done.

Default There's also an Audi technical bulletin out there for turning the rotors with the rotors on the car.

To make sure everything is in alignment / parallel.

Hmmmmm. . . .<ul><li><a href="http://steve-hall.com/audi-tsb/tsb/a460002.pdf">Here. (*.pdf file)</a></li></ul>

Default BS they macined the rotors wrong

is common on 2.7 cars and A8s to warp rotors but not this fast
if they didn't replace the rotors they should have check the runout and machine them
