Buying a 99 A6 Avant Q Yes/No?
I have had a 96 A4 Q manual trans.for about 5 years and am now debating on buying a 1996 A6 Avant Quattro w/ 120,000mi. Anything I should know or look at prior to buying. I know about timing belt. How about any common problems with these? How is the auto transmission w/ tiptronic vs a manual? Any experience with the 12v vs the 30v? Any available chip upgrades that are worth it (none for 12v). What upgrade options are available how much $$$ for how much hp gain. Any other info is greatly appreciated. TIA Noel

I love my 2000 Avant Quattro 2.8
Not a power house when it comes to HP numbers but it makes decent power. Mine has 96000. Bought it 4000 miles ago and did the timing belt change, etc..

I've had a '99 A6 Avant going on 2.5 years now.
We've put just about 30,000 on it in that time and it's just about to turn 100,000 miles. The only common things I know of are cam tensioner seals and the typical fading trip display in the cluster. Everything else that needed attention is listed below in the sig.
Bottom line if you ask me is you get A LOT of car for not much money. Knock wood, we'll be driving ours for a long time.
