Main cats remain in place, will still pass tail pipe sniffer test.

Default why?

the O-2 sensors are in place, the cats are in place. The pre-cat material in the downpipes is not needed to keep polution controls in check.

So what's it for? I thought it was supposed to begin the catalysation process?

Default I think the pre-cats simply "assist." They scrub the exhaust gas...

to some extent before it enters the main cats..

Default it still meets emissions, plus look at all the aftermarket downpipes out there, they do the same,

if not have less of an efficient cat than stock..

along those lines, you could even go so far as to say nobody should chip their car! yet everyone does..

i'm sure there's thousands of cars out there that are running poorly, not running catalytics and shouldn't even be on the road. compared to the 2.7T's out there that are modified, just the fact that they're well looked after helps the environment as it is since they're most likely running cleaner than a car that's not tended to properly..

have a nice one..

Default Agreed. On that note, they just dropped testing for 96-earlier cars here in Illinois.

Talk about stupid. THOSE are the cars that need to be tested, not newer ones. And FWIW, stats show that pre-96 cars make up 37% of the cars in IL. Stupid move governor B.

IIRC it scrubs the smellies just after startup. After that, they don't do much.
