Default C5 A6 Low Cost BBK - Touareg 4 piston calipers and MB rotors - install and other info

Ladies and Gents,

Posted this elsewhere, but it may be helpful the the AW folks...

This has been covered in other threads, but I put together a lot of info when I did my research in install so I figured it might help some people out if they are considering this option...

I was going to do a "build tread", but word and pdf just ended up being easier etc...

Here is the doc I came up with and links to all the stuff I gather in my quest... lol

Many Rotor spec drawings: http://www.VAGLinks.com/Pics/Brake_Info/

Images of my install and troubles....: http://www.VAGLinks.com/Pics/Brake_I..._Low_Cost_BBK/

I hope people find it helpful

Let me know if have questions and I will try to help you out if I can.

Cheers
Massboykie

So each time you replace your rotor, you will need to drill out bolt holes and the bore?

Seems like a lot of work. Is there no rotor that fits without any modifications?

Not that I am aware of.

Replacing the rotors really doesn't happen often, so I don't see the extra 30 minutes as an issue, personally.

Nice work and nice write up. This is one of those "if you have the tools it is totally worth it" pieces. Thanks for taking the time to capture the knowledge.

well, i guess if you can do it, cleanly (e,g,: perfectly centric) in 30 minutes....

Anyway, very nice machine work and write up regardless.

But it does seem that the only people who actually need BBKs are the exact ones who change pads more often than oil, and rotors pretty darn often (like every 3 pad sets).

And that's TRACK pads.....

For the record, the HP2s and stock rotors work great on the track, except they DO get hot if you run hard ( iwrote this up long version some time back). What we actually need is a cooling ducting system. I'm working with a plastic bottle at the moment....

Grant
