Default calling april

how can we be sure if the recalls have been done? i recently picked up a 99 a6q avant and took it in. they said that the only thing was the headlight wiring recall but after two calls to a0a, there should have been at least that recall and the control arms. at 82k the tie rod ends need replacing and i understand that there were 2 recalls for that.

yeah.. is there an expiration to recalls? I've had my car for over a year, but never taken it for recall repairs.

Default They keep in on record in their system. Go to a dealer and have them run your VIN.

They can check to see what recalls have been performed or still pending on your car. I had to have the JE, LQ, and JC recall performed on my 99 A6. Apparently the car was neglected dealer service and was taken to an indie shop which does not handle this type of stuff.

Since there are safety issues such as loss of control with bad control arms, dash fires from poor wiring recalls remain open until filled.

Recalls do not expire, but some "service actions" do.

Thanks for answering that:-) Yes, service actions do expire, but the recalls do not.

Default well the dealer didn't do the control arm check

they said that the only thing that shows up was the dash wiring. the aoa rep after the second call and putting me on hold to check, found that there was also the control arm check. what else was not done?

Default Not all cars qualify for all recalls/service actions. Sometimes engine/equipment/body/year

dependent. The control arm thing is pretty recent. There is/was a bumper fix for bumpers that got pulled away from the body when parking over some berms. Some cars had problems with fuel tank senders reading incorrectly. That's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Below is the list from alldata. Obviously not all things apply to all vehicles, and the list may not be complete.
