Cam adjuster seals/instrumentation cluster

Cam adjuster seals/instrumentation cluster
We have a '99 A6 Avant with 66,000 miles.
1. I saw a previous thread about oil leaks from the cam adjuster seals. Is this a common problem with this year and make?
2. Our instrumentation cluster display is dark. The computer works, it beeps at me, but I can't see whats wrong. Requires all new cluster. Has anyone else encountered this issue also?
We bought the car used earlier this year, out of state. The after-market warranty we bought with it does not cover these repairs. I have spoken with Audi corporate but they want an all new diagnostic before they can determine what they will or won't do for us.
Any ideas or advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Cam adjuster seals/instrumentation cluster
You don't seem to be getting much constructive feedback here! The oil leak problem is common on 98-99 models, many threads on this. The instrument cluster problem also appears but less frequently. To my knowledge there are no recalls for these two issues, the oil leaks are not too expensive to fix but the cam covers should be done at the same time I think. The instrument cluster is another matter I guess, can you get used parts easily from scrap yards in the US. If this is easy then a copy of Bentleys and a bit of DIY might save a few dollars. Good luck!

Timing Belt
If you are going to do the Cam Seals, you may as well do the timing belt at the same time. Will save on labor and you do have 66k miles, so it is about the right time to do it. I had my cluster and cam seals done under my assured warranty on my 99 A6Q. I had them do the timing belt and associated stuff at the same time and only had to pay for the parts.
