Cam seals leaking in 2001 A6
My mother's A6 has been leaking some sort of oil. She reported this while the car was under warranty, but the dealer couldn't find anything wrong.
Lo and behold, once the warranty expired, the dealer discovered that 4 cam seals are leaking and wants over $2K for the repairs, including changing the timing belt as petroleum and rubber do not mix.
2 questions...
First, anyone else have sam seals leak on a 2.8 A6? I see that there is a TSB for the 3.0 engine but didn't find anything on the 2.8.
Second, since the problem was first reported under warranty, am I wrong to believe that the repairs should be covered under warranty even though the warranty has now expired? I mean, is it my problem that the dealer couldn't figure out the cause of the leak in a timely manner?
FYI, the car has 43K miles.
