interesting enough, i found a timing gear puller on that website as well. it looks like it could work too. i'm going to rent both after work, then complete the job already.

that puller from autozone did not work. im going to have to buy the one that the manual calls for. anyone selling one?

i couldnt get the sprocket off. i dont really see a way to get them off with a hammer. i wonder if a harmonic balancer pulley puller would work because the posi lock isnt long enough.

I posted about hitting the bolt head with the hammer. Did you try that? Do you understand what I mean?

I trust you, so today I'll try your hammer method. I really must admit that I'm very nervous about it.
How hard should I hit it?
Which hammer should I use?

Use a metal mechanic's hammer. A couple of sharp blows straight on should do it. Hit the bolt, not the sprocket. Hit it like you are hammering it in as if it was a nail.

and the sprockets should just pop off? i'll try once i leave the office.
when i loosen each bolt, how much of a gap should there be between the washer and the sprocket? 1/16 inch? 1/8 inch? 1/4 inch?
