can't take the caliper off!!
Hello all, I am in the middle of changing front brake pad myself. After removing two bolts in the back of the caliper, it became loose but won't come off. I went through various write up but no mention on it. Any tips to pull this thing off? any help is appreciated.

If you removed the correct boltss (likely allen bolts) then you may need to pry it off by inserting
a bfs between the top of the caliper and the top edge of the rotor. That's how I do it anyway.

The reason I asked is that I wanted to attach the correct pretty picture
Like this example-

Like Kingfish said, you more than likely need to take a Big screwdriver and pry the pads off the rotor. You will need to compress the piston as far back as you can to get the new pads in anyway. You might need to finish this with a big C Clamp (special tool if on the rear)
If you loosened bolt 3 its the wrong ones, guide pin 5 would be the correct ones.
Another thing that helps is to put in a lug bolt to hold the rotor tight so your not fighting it at the same time.

Re: The reason I asked is that I wanted to attach the correct pretty picture
thanks all. my car is 98 A6. i eventually discovered that it was the edge of the rotor stopping me to pull the caliper off. the rotor was so worn that the outer edge was almost 2mm more than the surface. I grind away the edge and pull off the caliper easily. thanks all.

Reset the caliper a bit, pads are likely hung up on the edge/lip of the rotor...
Place a large screwdriver between the outside of the caliper and the backing plate of the outside pad. Apply steady force to get the caliper piston(s) pushed back a bit.
Alternatively, if you have a large C-clamp, put one end on the back of the outside pad and the other on the inside surface of the caliper and tighten it to reset the caliper piston...you'll know when it's fully reset as the clamp will get tight, don't crank on it.
Good luck.
