Default CELs on all 3 of my cars lately. Has the fuel been changed due to cold weather? -->

Hi all - random question here:

each of my cars (3-Series BMW, A6 2.7T, and chrysler minivan) have had the CELs appear in the past two weeks. Two of them have now cleared (only the A6 is still on, but it's only been there 3 days). All instances occured after I added fuel to the cars. But, I used 3 different gas stations (although all were the same chain).
Is it possible the fuel has been changed to compensate for the very cold weather we've been having? I'm wondering if this is the cause of the CELs....

Any other thoughts?

Yes, they could be adding ethanol (from corn), 10-15% in some cases... Look for signs on pumps.

Default Could very well be, each area is different but if I recall correctly

many cold weather states require the mixture to be changed during the coldest months (Dec., Jan., Feb). When I lived in Indiana the mixture changed dramatically during winter (did not matter which brand I used) and it would really screw up the Boxster my wife drove, rough idle, poor mileage, CEL on etc. Real pain in the a$$, after many repeated trips to dealer they finally claimed it was the fuel. I thought they were just telling me something to satisfy me but when spring rolled around the car ran great again. Your state EPA should be able to shed some light on the possible changes for winter.

Default Not here

No CELs here, and I'm using the same fuel, more or less, than you are.

Default Sean - FWIW, all three fill-ups were at different Cumb. Farms (Gulf) stations. I think I'll switch

to different gas stations for awhile to see if that changes anything.

Default Interesting

Of my last 3 fill ups, one was a Cumbie's Gulf, one at a Gulf station, and one at BP.

Try some Techron when you fill it up, just in case.
