Change cam tensioner pads?

I was never a fan of how the Bentley described the timing chain roller counts. As you likely deduced, the roller # count all depends on where you start counting & where you stop counting relative to the sprocket timing marks & adjacent tooth. Could be 14, could be 15, could be 16. This pic has it right. I chased misfire problems for a long time on my prior A6. Turns out previous owner switched tensioners L-R vs R-L . Yes the tensioners look the same & fit the same, but they are not the same. Different guts, different p/n's, & not interchangeable. Good to hear you got yours back together with correct chain count. This pic for the next guy having problems. Take note that the Intake cam notch/tooth alignments are different btwn bank 1 (PS) & bank 2 (DS).
