Default Clear corner mod problem... NEED HELP PLZ!!! ARGHHHH!

Due to my not having full use of my right hand I decided it would be a better idea to have my local Audi body shop do the job. I provided them with two new lamp assemblies along with the majority of the posts from this forum on how to do this mod.

Using one heat gun they were able to get the left housing apart and back together in about 20 minutes. They then turned to the right unit and well over an hour and two heat guns later they were unsuccessful. According to the shop supervisor, it appeared to him that the glue used to apply the lens on this unit was different from the glue on the left unit. So the one tech assigned to the job decided to try the drill/break method. Unfortunately he ended up scratching the CRAP out of the silver reflector!!!

So... I got them a second right side assembly. They have tried again with two guns - this time with the supervisor helping with the job - to no avail.

PLEASE tell me one of you guys has a clue why they are running into this problem and what they can do to overcome this stubborn glue!

Thx!

Default Just checking: did they remove the metall clips?

Otherwise, I can only think of "other glue" theory

Default I could have helped you out, I used the oven method and it always worked. It is a really DIY job...

I dont know why you went to the dealer with this kind of mod, but I hope you get it worked out.

I live in bergen county so let me know.

Default Dumb question re: oven method

What temp did you use and for how long? Also... if all else fails, you got any plans over Thanksgiving weekend?

Also, I went to them for 2 reasons. #1 they were already re-doing the front of my car for other damage and #2 my right hand has nerve damage so I can't manipulate large objects very well and I do not trust myself with a $750 headlamp assy at 350 degrees.

Maybe I should invest in an oven mit for my lap! )

Note: the units I bought were SUPPOSED to be e-codes, BUT they arrived w/ reflectors installed

Default Odd, I've never seen E-codes with amber reflectors...

do they have the E stamp on teh front of the lens? Or do they say DOT on them?

I used the heat gun method, you do have to get them pretty warm...

No DOT... only an E in a circle
