I've been a member of this forum for a while, being the proud owner of a 2001 TT Roadster here in sunny (mostly) California.

However, my family and I (being British) are moving back to the motherland this summer, and I am in a quandary as to what to get as our (probably only) family car.

The practical side of me says to get a mini-MPV like a Renault Scenic or a Mazda 5, but the driver in me says to get something older and nicer, like an A6 Avant.

We actually leased a 2003 VW Passat 4-motion wagon until recently, so I'm fairly familiar with that "platform".

I would probably be after something like a 2001 or 2002 2.5 V6 TDI 155 SE Avant. The ones in my price range seem to have average-to-highish mileages (60K+).

Any tips or things to look out for on this sort of car at this sort of age would be most welcome.

2001 or newer as per dealer and TDIs seem to run great.
