ContiSport info. for Stu B. and other tire stuff.

Good quality modern radials can be cross-rotated. No problem at all.
I've been told this by many tire people and I've never had a problem with it. Same-side rotation for radials is something which has stuck in our brains from 20 years ago. It's no longer necessary.

There are several reasons why I prefer a full-size spare...
If you'll have to drive a long way before repair and don't want to be limited to 50 mph it's darned nice to have a real spare. If you must drive far in snow/ice it's vastly preferable and safer. Also, I don't think quattro likes having a different diameter tire on one corner. And of course, it's nice to have a matching wheel on your beautiful high-performance car. Having a spare wheel is nice, too, if you damage one. You've been lucky. I get a flat about once every two years or so.

Stu B + others, besides the tires mentioned here and obviously the Dunlop 9000's I'd consider:
the Yokohama AVS Sport and the Firestone SZ50. Some food for thought. Let us know how your thinking is going and to all else tell us about your tire experiences. "Theres a lot riding on our tires"!
