Cup Holder / Coin Holder Exchange ...
I recall during my research phase, reading about swapping out the in dash coin holder tray for another cup holder. Does anyone have a link to the procedure?

Someone has posted the proceedure with the parts of the operation that you
really need to heed. It seemed complete, as if you do it wrong you have busted the thing. Is the search function back "on"?
My dealer did it when the car was in for an oil-change...no charge as it takes those who know about 2 minutes tops.

I posted *WAY* back when, but someone posted more
details after me. IIRC they disagreed with the ease of removal and/or had some other tricks.

Richard's Coin/card tray to cupholder swap info (DIY info included) posting

My dealer also did it at no charge, although I swapped the existing cup holder for a "credit card"
tray. ESP button took the place of the card holder, which I use a lot, and I never did like the dash cupholder.

What do you put in the tray?
Not a criticism, just curious because I didn't like using it for coins and couldn't think of any other use for it... I still have mine, in case something earthshaking came up, I could always switch back

The procedure
I posted this a month or so ago, so I'll try to recall the steps. It's actually pretty easy, once you've done it...
1. Remove the plastic face plate that surrounds the cupholders and the hazards switch. This just prys off the dash (I used a small screwdriver which had a piece of electrical tape over it (prevents scratches). You can do without the tape - just be careful...
2. You'll note two small mteal "clips" just above the existing "card holder". Use the small screwdriver to reach in and depress the clips. Once they are both pressed down, the whole unit slides free - just pull it out SLOWLY, because...
3. There is a small electical connection at the back of the holder (for night lighting). Disconnect this (it just unplugs), and remove the cup holder.
4. Take the new cupholder, plug the connector in back for night lighting, and slide into the opening. Click. Replace the faceplate. You're done.
It's a little "simplistic", but it really was easy. You can do it without taking the faceplate off, but it's a lot more difficult...
