cv boot/joint repair
ok i feel like such a noob. but i took apart the cv join while i was doing the cv boot and didnt look to see how it was put together, is there a certain wait the inner and outer rollers holders are supposed to be oriented? i notice now when i hit a bump i hear a rattle/ possible click? but only sometimes, and when im doing tight turns in the parking lot everything is silent. just a little background i also did the breaks. did i put the cv joint back together wrong or is it possible i just left somewthing loose to rattle down there.... 9 hours working on the car and you get a little forgetfull

I would say the rattle is caused by something other than the CV joint. If it went together withh all the ***** correctly inserted and it survives a tight turn with falling apart it is probably OK. You would most likely feel some vibration if the centre was not assembled correctly as well.
Jack it up and turn the wheel to check the driveshaft runs true and have a good look for what is rattling.

did you actually disassemble the CV? If you did, it needs to go back EXACTLY as it came apart (ie the ***** need to go in the same spots they came out and the inner and outer cage need to be set in the same exact position they came apart).
If you didn't, it's probably not the cv itself. You touched alot of other things though, so I would jack the car up, and start moving things around to see if you can recreate it. Did you install the plastic spacer/washer on the axle shaft before putting the joint on?

i agree with this, but honestly was unsure. I have never tried to dis-assemble one completely - not sure why you would.....While the ***** and races are identical, the wear patterns 10 years on will differ. Nonetheless, i doubt it would rattle. more likely bind or just wear faster.
I would suspect the tranny flange bolts first. Or something unrelated - did you touch anything else?

ok looked in wheel well, bolts holding the caliper retaining bracket were loose, tightened them up , sound went away.. im correct to assume that the cv joint survivin some serious Uturns and bumps means it was assembled right? i was under the impression that a incorrectly assembled cv join would pop apart?

Glad to hear it was nothing serious you left loose! The CV joint will be fine, they are very robust and can survive most things, except prolonged water and grit!
There may possibly be some small variations in wear patterns between the segments within the joint, but, if it went together alright, flexes smoothly and has grease and a good boot fitted, it will probably still be good for another 100k miles.
