What to do. I'm in agony. I am in New Zealand and can get an Allroad next month (Silver - my preferred color) or an S6 Avant now, in black. The S6 is way more expensive ($US20k) here than the Allroad and a bit of a stretch right now financially, but they are awesome machines. I do a lot of windsurfing so the Allroad looks ideal but I'm not really driving off road much so while the ride height thing is cool, its not essential.

Argh!! I want to someone to say the Allroad has lots of power but the 4.2 (especially the 340hp version) is turbine smooth.

Right now I have an '96 A4 Avant TQ 210hp and '94 Porsche 911 (993). If I get an Allroad I can (maybe just) keep the 993. If I get the S6 I'll have to let the beloved 993 go.

Any one have a point of view that might make the decision easier? Are you satisfied with the AllRoad?

I love the V8 but wouldn't want to part with the 911. Get the Allroad. Maybe.

I am more or less on the same boat as you but do not have the good fortune and the cash to own a 911. Had an A41.8TQ for 1.5 yrs before swapping it to an A62.8Q for another 1.5 yrs. Allroad coming late Nov. Can't wait...

I suppose it really gets down to do you want to go off road or not ? If you don't then go for the S6, if you do, then the allroad is a no brainer.

I'd also take the stealthiness of the S6 into account. Who wants a Porsche when you can have a Station Wagon that can blow them away.

It does all the things an Allroad does (minus the ride height and air suspension that our Aussie friend says he doesn't need). Does it do what you 993 does for u? Does keeping an extra sports car cost u a lot for insurance premium? garage space? If your 911 is a convertible I might keep it, but if not, just see if u want an extra car...! I personally would like an S6 avant than an allroad... which, imo, looks like a weird hybrid.. too much of an volvo XC look... ...
